Now that I got the algae under control in my 46 gallon, I was thinking about getting a CO2 system for the live plants in the tank. The only size that I found that was suitable for the tank is the Red Sea Turbo CO2 Bio System for tanks up to 40 gallons. Even though it falls short of my tank size by six gallons, it's the only one that I can find and I'm sure it'll be fine.

Is there anyway to "make" CO2 for the generator? The refills that can be ordered separately for the system only last one month, so I was just wondering if it's possible to "make" CO2 for the aquarium. Or, is it just better to buy the refills every month? This is my first time dealing with CO2 systems, so please forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject.

Any advice would be appreciated. :)

To be honest you'd better with a pressureied kit, not only is that kit to small for your tank but I doubt it'll get anywhere near the 30ppm you'll probably need.

Have a look at the pinned article on carbon dioxide at the top of this section, you may also want to look at the lighting article also, this will help you decide whether CO2 is optional or not for your tank (depends on your lighting levels) theres info on DIY CO2 in the above section or do a search in this section of the forum.
