help please

in the last week iv added a pressure co2 system in my 24/12/182 tank

i set it up to 6 bubbles per min based on working out the ph and kh at the time.

iv just tested my tank and its now got a PH of 8.0 and a kh of 9dkh.

please can some one tell me if this is ok and if not what do i have to do to change it and what readings should i be ameing for.

thanks for your time

Hey !
Im no expert quite new to this myself but id say you need to be dosing one bubble per second!!!! (for starters) your Kh is rather high every thing I read say a KH of 4 is optimal get the Kh down By water changing with R.O water perhaps?

A KH of 9 is fine, do not worry about messing with water chemistry. It is true that most plants prefer softer water but providing you have sufficient light and nutrients then you won't have problem.

6 bubbles per minute is far too low, hence your CO2 reading.

Here's a table - http://www.tropica.dk/catalog/images/artic...ik/co2table.gif

As planter suggests start with 1 bubble per second and work your way up from there. Minimise surface agitation and ensure you have no airstones etc. to help reduce CO2 loss.

1 bubble per second is definately the way to go :good:
I had mine on 1 every 2 seconds to start with when I first set up, and it made little difference to the plants. When I changed to 1 per second it made a massive difference!!

Hi,

Your kH level isn't too bad and as gf225 states, it's no point fighting your water. Your CO2 is a little low.
CO2 reacts with the Carbonate hardness to produce Carbonic acid. This is what drives down the pH.
The scale is directly related. Follow the link gf225 has posted and you will see that a kH of 9 and a required CO2 level of around 25ppm will give a pH of 7.05.

Slowly increase the bubble rate until the pH drops to the required level and bingo!

I just started the pressuried as well. You want your PH to turn to 7.0 to give you a reading of 28ppm co2.

I reckon 60-90 bubbles per minute will be good. Just check on the fish to see how they're doing.

I have a 55 gallon tank doing 130 bubbles a minute which gets me around where I want it :good:

Some people leave there's on at night. but that's a waste of co2. I also put air pump on at night to give the fish extra oxygen
