been searching for a co2 gas supplier. and noticed Boc do a nitrogen/ co2 mix gas and was wondering if the nitrogen would diffuse into the water the same way co2 does,,,,

BOC do pure co2, so I have to ask why you'd get the nitrogen/co2 mix?

I was wondering if the nitrogen would diffuse into the water the same was as co2 does and so give me a constant stream of nitrates in the water...

Not sure on that, but if it works, how can you maintain a required CO2 level AND a required nitrate/nitrogen level? I am guessing you'd have one right but not the other?

trial and error, as they can mix the gas to what ever particular mix i want, where it be 50/50 or 93/7%
It all depends on how soluble the nitrogen is in water

The nitrogen in liquid form we add is as KNO3, which I think makes it more available to the plants, nitrogen in pure gas form probably isn't available to the plants. In the terrestrial environment, nitrifying bacteria in the soil convert nitrogen gas to a form plants can use, would think the same would be required in the planted tank, which it probably wont be, so it might be a waste of time. That said give it a go! Does sounds a bit pointless though, adding KNO3 in powered or liquid form is so easy, why make it more complicated?

Cos i have FAR to much time on my hands....

It was just an idle thought really, just thought i`d explore it a little more

Fair enough! Well give it a try!

after trying to understand the bunsen coefficent, (god knows what that is)
and looking at many many graphs, ive decided that unless i have a HUGE amount of spare time to go off and study physics and chemistry or alot of money so i can have hundreds of fish tanks set up all running various nitrogen/co2 mixtures,
Its just not worth the hastle,

besides from what i have gatherd the nitrogen wount disolve well in water unless the water is rather cold

I`m going back to designing my co2 reactor that will create an anaerobic zone that will complete the nitrogen cycle and remove nitrates completely from the aquarium thusly negating the need for water changes.....

Haha good good, but why do you need to remove the NO3? Then the plants wont have any?
