Hi,
Am I right in thinking that if you add more yeast to your own CO2 mix you are making it give off more CO2 per bubble?

I was just wondering as I've used the nutrafin sachets that came with the canister until now.
Simon.

no it is my understanding that the amount of bubbles will increase, not the size of the bubble or concentration of co2 in the bubble, because you have more yeast creating more co2...

most people use a DIY mixture with their nutrafin kits when they run out of the satchets...

fill to the first fin with sugar (about 2 cups), then use between 1/2 tsp and 1 tsp of bakers yeast (activator), then add 1/2 tsp of baking soda (stabilizer) ....experimenting with different amounts of yeast will either increase or decrease co2 production

oh i see now - thanks. the more yeast the more bubbles - therefore more CO2. I got the wrong end if it!

thanks abstract.

Hello mate.

I use one of those plastic medicine spoons (that come with cough medicine etc.) It should have a 2.5 ml end and a 5 ml end. I use a level 2.5 ml of "Harvest Gold Bread Yeast" (about £1 from Morrisons) and a level 5 ml of bi-carbonate of soda (about 50p I think). Add these to the sugar as normal and top up with luke warm water (use the indicating marks as normal). The trick is to get the water at the right temp. and coming out the tap quite fast. This mixes up the mixture well and starts the CO2 process quickly - I have my first bubbles in minutes.

You should get approx. 1 bubble every 3 or 4 seconds using the exact method as described for about a week then the rate will slow. I change my mixture every 2 weeks even though there is still a fair amount of output - I like just to keep it high.

Thanks George.

I have a sachet or two left, then i'll try that method. I was getting a bubble about every 4 seconds for roughly 3 - 3 1/2 weeks with it.

Thanks again.
