Co2 Kit

Interesting piece of equipment.....
I have no experience of it, but from reading the blurb I can't see how you can regulate the co2 that enters the aquarium.

With other pieces of kit (home made or otherwise) you can use a bubble counter with a set mixture to regulate the amount of co2 that goes in.

With this, it seems to be trial and error and constant testing to work out how long a 'squirt' should be.

I've seen these in my lfs.

The 'diffuser' is just a tube, 2" long and about 1" wide closed at one end, which is held in the tank open end down.

You 'squirt' the CO2 in to fill the tube with gas. The gas then diffuses into the water. Presumably when all the CO2 has diffused into the water you squirt some more.

No control at all - the same as a diy fermenter set up with a bell jar. And the can only has 7g of Co2 in it.

But I think it said for up to 100 litre tanks.

To be honest this kit is rubbish, firstly you have no way of controlling the amount of CO2 you add, also you have to 'inject' the CO2 daily into the diffusers, what happens if you go away? And its expensive at 5quid per month for refills.

I would get the hagen nutrafin kit, bit more expensive but much better.

The only thing that put me off this kit was the diffuser (sp) - it looks quite big?

Would this be ok for my 20 ukg?
Tetra Plant Co2 Optimat

I used it for a short while and to be honest I have no evidence that it actually worked. My PH did'nt drop at all-The Nutrafin system definately works using DIY mix, but I found it (or 2 its) to be relatively high maintenance (refilling, white gunk etc) that in the end I went pressurised.

Think i'll go for the Nutrafin system. Unless i can find a pressurised system for under £30 :p

Good chioce, the kind you showed us is aload of rubbish, stayaway from that one, it looks like its aimed at people who have no clue about growing plants, your lucky your apart of this forum.

You can save even more money by doing the mixture your self, sugar, yeast and bicarbinate of soda. :good:

Graeme.

Yeh the nutrafin ones do need more maintenance, but if you haven't got the money for pressurised they are a great alternative for small tanks. If you want to stop the white fluffy stuff getting into the tank a simple bubble counter (either DIY or a prefab which you can get from Aquaessentails) means it all goes in the counter and not into the tank, then just clean the counter once a month :)
