Hi ya all

Does anybody out there run this Profi 3 system (the one with the auto PH controller)

If you do what do you think of them.

Its hard to find any detailed instructions on this set but what there is talks of trying to keep the PH around 7 automatically. I read in this forum that a co2 content of 30ppm is around ideal, my question therefore is trying to keep the PH at 7 the equivalent of approx 30 ppm,or would further test still have to be carried out. If you do run one of these sets and if there is anything further you wish to add please feel free

I'm not an expert on all the specifics behind the science, but pH doesn't relate directly to CO2 levels without looking at carbonate hardness (kH, the buffering capacity of the water in the tank). A pH of 7 indicates CO2 level of 30ppm only if your dkH is 10.0.

A great description of the relationship between CO2, pH, and kH can be found here, as well as a calculator and a chart that you can use for estimating CO2 levels in your own tank.

I dont and few people do, as the pH probe is an unnecessary and very expensive addition, so people tend just to spend the money on other things.

EDIT - you could DIY a kit for a hell of a lot cheaper that the profit 3 kit as well, with pH probe if you have to have one. The JBL reg is also crap.
