i have a bad case of black alage and it is everywhere, so am about to set up a co2 thing (a bottle, yeast, sugar n water), do i need to have the air pump on aswell as the co2 or would that cancel it out? and i want a really nice planted tank.

and is there anymore advice u cn give me?

Thanks jodie

airstone only wants to be running when the lights go off and go off 2 hours before lights come one. buy a timer so you don't need to remember.

CO2 from those kits needs to be left alone to run 24/7. Use the recipe in the pinned article on the main planted forum. The supplied sachets are rubbish.

Change the mix weekly and ignore 'it will last so long' statements. Yes it will last that long but longevity is not what you want. You want it when it is at peak. when it is tailing off you want to replace it.

How large is your tank?

Adding Easycarbo or Flourish Excel daily at their recommended doses will help add some carbon into the tank as well. It should also help to kill the 'black' algae which I assume is either BBA or Staghorn
