hi

i am soon to set up a planted tank. i will use eco-complete as the substrate and use tropica plant nutrition as the fertilizer.

i am also going to use a DIY nutrafin co2 system but i'm not too sure what other equipment i will need to maintain the correct co2 levels. what else do i need to add to this list and if so where can i get it from.

2x nutrafin co2 system
2x drop checker

what size tank? you dont need anything else other than sugar and yeast.

to be honest they are rather rubbish, especially if its a big/decent size tank

Usually the yeast based CO2 injection will not work for a tank that large. One problem that I hear lots about using the DIY in the large tank is the fact that you do not get a consistent supply of CO2. Although, I have not heard specifically about using 2 at once. Pressurized co2 really isn't that expensive if you take some time to look and it is much more stable.

I just bough a regulator, solenoid, bubble counter, tubing, and a ladder diffuser for $130 incl. I got a 20 oz tank (with the co2), for $30 (that size bottle should last at least a couple months, refills are around $12). Because I couldn't find anyone else who sells co2 tanks, I just bought a paintball gun tank with a $35 adapter to make it work with my regulator. That's CAD dollars. For less than $200 I have everything and I just need to refill the tank every few months for about $12.

sen as you are in England it cost me £80 with 2kg FE! You will need at least 3 nutrafins, use DIY, they are the same but cheaper.
