I have rigged up an additional DIY CO2 unit, which I have connected to the bubble ladder of one of my Nutrafin units. Currently the Nutrafin unit is fed to an upturned plant pot, as I was thinking the the CO2 would collect and slowly diffuse...

Is it a waste of time?

i would say no, it is not a waste of time :) you are not reaching your desired levels of C02 ? whats your c02 level right now ? :)

*BTW did i get you right ? you now have 2 c02 units rigged, one is hooked to a ladder diffuser, the other just to an upturned cup ? :)

It's a recognised method but not the most efficient, no way near as good as the Nutrafin diffuser.

Personally I would use an airline splitter and connect both CO2 canisters (DIY and Nutrafin) to the same Nutrafin diffuser.

gf would connecting two c02 yeats generators be a problem for a ladder diffuser ? you know too much c02 thus the bubbles would just rise up quickly ? i am not familiar with ladder diffusers :( just curious

Should be ok. The size of the tubing dictates the bubble size, bubble size dictates the rate of ascent. There would simply be more bubbles.

That is all my assumption though. I may be completely wrong! Worth a try for £0.10 (cost of a splitter) though eh?

No its not a waste of time, but the collected co2 probably wont diffuse quick enough to be efficient, i think gfs idea would work, i dont see why not, and id say its many times more efficient than the inverted bell type method.

I'll pick one up next time I'm at the fish shop!

The size of the tubing dictates the bubble size, bubble size dictates the rate of ascent.

Addly enough, the bubbles from the DIY unit I've put in are MUCH bigger than the ones from the Nutrafin kits on the same piping... could this because the DIY is still pushing through a fair bit of Oxygen from the gas splitter I put in place?
