WHat works best to defise co2 bubbles nto a 30 gallon tank? A ladder or a air stone or anything else?

its for a diy co2 bottle.

and whats the best/cheapest US site to but it?

thanks alot.

commercial ones come with a ladder.

An airstone will cause surface agitation, which is NOT good for CO2 absorbtion.

I don't know anything of the US. Sorry.

Andy

Often the 'best' way is to pump the CO2 directly into the filter, that way you get a very high diffusion rates, that could be near 100%. BTW you'll need more than one yeast kit on a 30g tank.

Agreed. Don't know HOW to do it though, so how do you do that Sam?

so on 30 gallons i should use 2 diy bottles? and pump them both into the filter?
how do i check for the amount of co2 in the water? ive neveer seen a test kit for this.

my bottle is going into the filter intake now and the bubbles go directly into the filter.
I just drilled a whole in the tube and places the airtube through.

I've also read somewhere that it can damage filters. I have a 30 gal and I'm using 2 - 2 litre bottles. I use a glass diffuser. Works great for me.

You can get Nutrafin kit for only 30 G and DIY CO2 it's much cheaper..

Also get a CO2 drop checker to know how much CO2 you are injecting to your tank. and to avoid killing your FISH!!

So do you use one co2 difuser or combine both bottles into one? just wondering cause i plan on doing this tonight.

this is the tank i am talking about.

you can see on the right where the co2 air tube goes into the filter intake. Is this the right way to connect them? and i used and extra bottle for more co2.

also how do i measure the co2 in the water?

oh and of course, advise on the tank? im not a very skilled aquascaper so any advice is taken.
i was kinda going for the edge of a lake look with the random driftwood "fallen of a tree" and the background plants.

endlers are in the tank as well.

thanks alot!

i have a glass diffuser that sits right under the intake of my fluval 205..works great for me..its a 29gal tank..

Glass diffusers are good, I have two, but can be a bit more tricky on yeast type CO2, due to the lack of pressure, but it can work. Pumping the CO2 into the filter depends on the type of filter, its easiest with an external, as bUcky says, just find a way to attach to the CO2 hose to the intake. I was concerned about the CO2 damaging the filter, but lots of people do this with no apparent adverse effects.

OK, apparently THE best way to diffuse CO2 into the water is to use something called a Venturi Reactor.

The added bonus of using one of these is that it can be DIY'd for about $15 (I am British BTW) & because it runs off a powerhead, DIY or Nutrafin type CO2 'makers' can be run off the lighting timer - i.e. you now have the ability to 'switch off' your CO2 without the danger of a pressure build up.

See here for an improved version the 'Barr-Venturi' CO2 Reactor:

I'm ordering the bits to make my own soon :good:

Andy

PS
My thanks yet again to Tom Barr (aka Plantbrain) for pioneering this (and EI).

On my 29g I use two 2l bottles. I have them connected with a gang valve and it then goes to a Nutrafin ladder, although I guess I could just as easily put it to my filter. I like haveing the two connect, though, and it's very easy.
