my yeast sugar mix has suddenly decided to overflow into my tank. i've obviosly cut off the co2/liquid and done a 30 percent water change, is this gonna cause any harm to my fish?

How are the fish, wish I could help but know nothing about C02.

It doesnt do damage to the fish as long as you scoop as much as you can from the water and do a few large water changes.

Observe over the next few days.

To ensure it doesnt happen again only fill your pop bottle half full with the mix. How much yeast did you use? My basic mix is 2 cups dark brown sugar, and 1 tsp yeast in a final volume of 1 litre.

I generally put 500 ml boiling water in a jug, add sugar, stir until dissolved. Top up to 1 litre with cold water. Stand until room temp. Add sugar solution to pop bottle, add 1 tsp yeast. Leave overnight with lid off, and connect to tank following day.

If you find your mix is generating a lot of mess add in a second small (250ml) bottle alongside your main bottle to catch bits an bobs. How you do this is described here.
