Hi. I often see tanks that have a co2 diffuser releasing co2 nicely, and also have an airstone in them. Isn't doing this defeating the point of having co2? if not should i put an airstone in my tank? ( i have co2 set up)

I guess you'll find these people have the airstone on a timer to come on after lights out to help gas off the CO2 and raise O2 levels at night.

You often see a post with airstone and co2 together as if the two are related but they're not. You'll want the co2 at or below 30ppm during lights on.
The airstone - Not really needed, if you have good flow and a normal size tank.

IMO

It doesn't really "defeat" the point of injecting CO2. It just reduces the efficiency of the process, since it helps the dissolved CO2 to escape faster. For example, a HOB filter will also have similar effect on dissolved CO2. Yet, people use CO2 with HOB filters. Again, it works, albeit less efficiently, i.e. you have to spend more CO2 from the bottle to achieve the desired result.

Not really, unless you are trying to solve a problem that you know exists. Does your fish have trouble breathing? If your filtering equipment by itself creates sufficient aeration of the water, you don't need airstone. Also, if your CO2 shuts off at night, you don't need to worry about it either.

If you keep your CO2 injection running at night then, maybe it is something to be concerned about... But at the same time it might be non-issue, depending on the parameters of your setup. In any case, a better solution in this case would be to shut off (or reduce) CO2 at night, instead of trying to compensate by an airstone.

No, there is a co2 diffuser and an airstone on during the day. I'm not stupid, i lnow that it could be better for the fish to have an airstone on during the night but i'm seeing people have an airstone and a co2 diffuser going at the same time.

it's quite rare to see people using them together, if people are they really don't need to be. You can run them side by side, but you'd need to up the C02 injection, and this would end up in a waste of C02. I agree with AndreyT's post.
