I Have an air curtain up the back of my tank, was thinking of getting a CO2 kit but I aint sure if the air curtain will disturb the CO2 bubble and therefore it would be pointless? Thanks for your help.
Paul

I would not run CO2 with an air curtain. I wouldn't run an air curtain all toghter in a planted tank

^ Agreed.

The air-curtain should have no effect on the CO2 bubble ladder itself, however the manner in which the air bubbles break up the surface of the water will have an effect on any CO2 you've painstakingly managed got into the water...

what about if you run it at night ( ive got a haydor one with built in blue light) when the CO2's not being used by the plants anyway/as much, but saying that it is/would be better to run without

^ not a bad idea actually.

Those people with more money than sense (I'm not bitter at all. Honest) who have pressurized CO2 systems typically run the system alongside the photoperiod - in other words when the lights are on the CO2 is on and off at 'night' (whenever that is).

With those DIY Nutrafin kits, you cannot really turn them off (there are ways & means though). In having the aircurtain come on at night, however, could be quite a feasable way of reducing the CO2 at 'night'.

BTW, if using those DIY kits, I'd really consider using 2 (staggered) as stability of CO2 levels is very important.

1) you could use some sort of screw clamp to shut the co2 in, aslong as you have like some sort of fall back if the pressure gets too great, i saw one on a DIY where you get a T peice and put like a rubber cap on the end so its a sng fit but will pop off if the pressures too great,
2) im in the process of constructing my second one now ive got the air tubing and am now looking for a 2 lt bottle

Be warned.... The pressure in these things can build up massively. Don't be fooled by their DIY looks....

Also, not automatic.... If your memory is anything like mine.....

Wah?! o_O

and thats why they had this like cap thing, it would let the CO2 escape OC you'd lose your DIY CO2 produced at that time, but i prefer it then having to fork out £££ on new carpets and walls, sticky yeasty mess...cant be good
then again o dont bother with my one any ore i just closed the air tube up and only use the moonlighting

I mean 'automatic' as in you'd have to remember to turn the tap off at night & back on again in the morning, not as in automatic pressure release.

Seems like you guys have been chatting quite a bit while I was away. The reason I have the air curtain is coz it looks good so probably wouldnt make sense to turn it on at night when you cant see it ay. Well I have a new light unit to install to see if it helps my plants which it should. I will hang on for a while before adding CO2 if its really needed, was just checking to see if they would clash with each other and the was any way around it. Take it there aint really.
