I put my two clown loaches into my tank this morning.

I have some wood in there which is hollow (see pic). I think the clown loaches have disappeared into it as I haven't seen them for about an hour.

Is this OK, or could they have got stuck? Should I try and get them out or leave them to it?

I have heard of this happening once before, and it resulted in fry! Do they still hide if you sit in complete darkness?

Hi,

I've got a similar piece of wood in my tank which is hollow - just noticed this week that my 2 Clown's keep disappearing inside it together now and then. They're out and about a fair bit of the time, then just slink off to their hidey hole. Also worry that they'll get stuck, but seem okay for now.

hi,
dont worry i have 1x2inch and 2x4inch clowns in my mangrove root, which looks like yours, when i fisrt put them in my tank i thought they had jumped out, so i was looking on the floor, a few days later i caught them swimming out very happy with there new hiding place, today i was just saying to my hubby ive not seen them in 4 days but im not worried, you get use to their funny ways, sometimes my pleco gets in the root with the 3 clowns  . all the best donna :)
edit- if this is the only place in your tank to hide they will spend a lot of time in there as they love to squeeze in to dark holes, dont worry about them being stuck they wont be,also did you know sometimes they like to play dead, one minute they are laying on their side looking dead, owner thinks omg gets the net and whoosh its back to life. try giving them defrosted prawns mine love them, and when they love what they are eating sometimes you can hesr them making a clicking sound. they wont be any fry im afraid, they hardly ever breed in peoples home aquariums.

No don’t try and get them out, if they get in they can come out. If you tried to get them out they would put out those (don’t know what they are called) spiny things on the sides of their heads and they would get damaged if they were pulled out. Better to leave them, they will come out when they are ready. They are new in the tank, it will take them some time to feel secure and they prefer a little shoal to feel safe.
You will see them soon enough.
