Well, as some of you know, my tank is home to a pair of clownfish for the time being. They currently have no tankmates, its just them. They appear healthy and are very active little guys but I'm a little concerned with feeding them. As these are my first marine fish I really dont have any experience dealing with them and want to make sure I'm doing things right. At the moment I'm feednig them Hikari Marine S sinking type pellets which is what they were primarily fed by the LFS they came from. They GOBBLE the pellets up like it was their job when I do feed them. They've been getting a decent sized pinch of food twice per day (morning and evening). I've tried feeding them frozen bloodworms, frozen brineshrimp, and Omega One Marine Flake as well. All of those 3 foods they nip at but they dont really gobble them up like they do the sinking pellets. Should I continue to try and get them to eat those other foods even if they're not eating them? Perhaps on an every other day basis to try and get them to develop a taste for it, or will they be picky eaters?

I'm pretty sure I'm not overfeeding them as my nitrate levels have actually come down since their initial introduction to the tank. THey bumped it from 0 to 10 when I introduced them, and since then its dropped to less than 5ppm. Is my current pinch twice a day enough for them, or should I try any more?

Feeding amount sounds about right and I would continue trying to vary their diet. You will find once more tankmates are added they will start to try different things after seeing everyone else eating it.

Mine eat anything and everything including my fingers

At least what they dont eat as far as bloodworms and brineshirmp goes my freshwater guys gobble up so it doesnt go to waste ;)

Try frozen (then thawed lol) Krill. My clown eats that stuff like its goin outa style. Its annoying, ill feed my corals with it, and he will come and pinch it.... :grr:

Part of it also depends on the size of the food your feeding them. I know Ive been harping on this for a while, but no one seems to ever mention it. Depending on the age of your fish, they may not be ready for such large food. I got mine from the LFS fresh off the truck from ORA hatcheries. for the first three to four months of their lives they would only take new life spectrum small fish formula. Then it was that and the small parts of the mysis shrimp thaw with the big stuff going to my freshies. Now they eat the big stuff like pros! Some of the really big peices still look to give them some trouble, but they manage in the end. I think yours will be ok as long as they are eating. Next time try the shrimp and only put the smallest peices in the tank and see what happens.
