I read somewhere that clowns know the 'time', and they adjust their lifestyle by the lights (dawn and dusk)

should I get a timer to make sure they 'sleep' and 'wake up' at the same time every day? I just turn the lights off around 11 at night, and turn it on whenever I get up in the morning (all hours)

All animals have some sort of body clock, thats why there are timers on light systems. I'd think your best doing that, as going from darkness to light in 1 go and vice versa will probably mess them up. When its light they get up, when its dark they go sleep. As soon as my halides go off at night, all they fish disapear within 10 mins into the rock work, then 20 mins later the actnics go off and then all the creepys come out, and its the reverse in the moring.
Imagine if someone came into you while you were sleeping at some random time and got you up, then had you going till you didnt know when, then got you up the next day even earlier!, im sure after even a very short while you'd feel the effects.
leon.

as long as you're tank is on a pretty regular light cycle,
the fish will not be affected.
