Hi,
I heard that clown loaches don't get pregnant in captivity. Does anyone know if this is accurate? How do you know whether they are males or females? :dunno: Thanks.

they don't pregnant, period. ;) they're egglayers.

you might could breed them (always a first time for everything, right?) but you probably wouldn't be able to sex them before anyone starts laying eggs.

clown loach have been bredd in captivity but it was more by chance and the clowns need to be well mature at aorund 7 years old.

i think the link to the report was posted a while back on here but I'm sure some nifty searching could find this.....not mine though as i'm off to bed (damn college  )

You may have noticed that Clown loaches tend to always be quite expensive, especially the larger ones. This is primarily due to the time required to raise active breeding pairs, and the large tanks (55G for a pair)... Its all quite expensive, but if you have the time and the enthusiasm, its well worth doing!

Ben
