what would be a good number of clown loaches to buy i was think 3-5 since they cuz they cost a little more round here for some reason and i didnt know if id get a certain number they'd pick on each other or something

Clown Loaches are best in groups of 3 or more. That said, if you are thinking of putting them in that 55 in your sig, you should be aware that they grow initially quite quickly and can reach 12"/300mm in time. That tank will not be big enough. Also, the tank is already, not overstocked, but getting fairly full. The 3 CAE's will likely cause problems as they get bigger as well.

i have to disagree, clown loaches only get between 7-8" in captivity and they grow rapidly to 4" but after that grow very slowly. IMO a 55 gallon is plenty for 3.

However you may wanna think about getting rid of 2 CAE's or at least 1. They get alot bigger than the clowns, and can get mean! Although the ones i had grew huge but never got mean!

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with this. ;) Even at the size of 7-8" they are still big fish. Not to mention quick and active swimmers. I wouldn't keep them in anything less than 75 gal, although I think a 100 gal would be preferable.

Since they like to swim, the length of the tank is more important though. I'd feel bad seeing a group of active 7" fish trying to get enough swimming space in a tank that's only 4 foot long, for example. It just looks (and is) too little.

clown loaches r luvly .xx.. do need room though.. cae....or sucking loaches need to be kept singly cos they can be very aggressive towards each other. They like ,if they can be to be boss of the tank!!. :)
