I was wondering if Clown Loaches can be kept with larger snails without the fear they the snails will become food.

Would a Clown Loach eat a large trumpet snail, or medium size apple snails?

Thanks,

...

I'm afraid the clown loach will defiantly eat the apple snail, the trumpet snail is at less risk because of the thick shell, but the loach would most likely eat him too.

I have two medium sized apple snails in my community tank, and each one is about 1.5" diameter. I also have 5 young clown loaches in that tank, of varying sizes but the largest of which is just over 2".

I originlly had three snails but one mysteriously disappeared out of its shell one night. I've occasionally seen the clowns trying to nip the snails, but they've never had much success.

Just my experiences....

Irf.

Eventually they will be food. Snails are one of the favorite foods of loaches.

If the snails are large, the loaches may end up nibbling parts off the snails. It may not outright kill the snails, but it's only a matter of time.

i did have 3 large apple snails in with my clown loaches as i got told they should be ok but 1 by 1 they all got eaten the clown loaches are about 3" in size
