Clown Loaches Fighting

Hey all, I managed to just catch a couple of my clown loaches sparring for rank in my fish tank.

My clown loaches do spar for dominance on a regular basis.

about a year ago two of my clown loaches both approx 3 and a half inches long would face off each other and they would click like mad, even though my the tank already had a dominant 6 inch clown loach in it.
So they were clearly fighting over hierarchy amongst the 2 of them.

Now one of the said loaches has outgrown the other loach to about 6 inches and now reguarly spars almost every other day lately with my 6 inch loach for dominance of the tank.

I can always tell when a sparing session is about to commence because you can literally see the Clown loaches tense themselves up before the fight.

I have to say your clown loach sparring looks pretty tame compared to my fellas!
Generally though they kiss and make up.

I caught this fight on cam towards the end, earlier they really were going at it. I seem to have one large dominant fish, two a little smaller (the two here fighting) and 3 slightly smaller ones. I only ever see these two fighting, I've yet to see either of them try to take on "big daddy".

Gavin do yours click when sparring......mine do.

They do tend to be aware of their own size........when my 3 and a half inch clown loaches were the same size they fought each other.......the big 6 inch one would only show dominance by chasing away the other loaches at feeding time, but never actually sparred with the smaller loaches for dominance.....nor did the smaller loaches dare to spar the 6 inch loach.......they were far too smart to do that!

But now that one of the 2 previously 3 & half inch loach has grown a bit, he seems courageous enough to take on Mrs 6 inch......., Mrs 6 inch though has now cottoned to the fact that there is now a much younger upstart in the tank that is now of similar size, and challenging for position of King or Queen of the tank.......so now it is Mrs 6 inch that seems to be initiating the sparring now, as if to say......."Yes you have gotten bigger, and yes you have got bolder by challenging me......but I am 9 years your senior and still the queen of this jungle......don't mess!"

It's fascinating to watch but at the momnent the old Queen is still the Queen and she's letting eveyone know it!

Yes they click now and then when sparring but only when they are being very aggresive. Most of the time the clicking is saved until an algie tablet hits the deck.
