Hi all,

I have just brought myself 2 Clown Loaches, they look fantastic in the tank!

However I just have a few questions:

What do they eat? are the OK on catfish sinking pellets, I do also have some frozen food for tropical fish they are also a type of sinking pellet, and just normal floating food

Are they normally a shy fish? as mine always swim to the back when you sit and watch them

Thanks

Hi all,

I have just brought myself 2 Clown Loaches, they look fantastic in the tank!

However I just have a few questions:

What do they eat?

Clowns aren't too picky and can be fed, algae wafers, catfish tablets, frozen foods such as bloodworm, brineshrimp etc, And last but not least, veg, Courgette or cucumber being the most commonly fed.

Are they normally a shy fish?
Clowns are naturally a shy fish and should really be kept in larger numbers although if they are new to the tank they will need a week or two to get used to their new surroundings,

Thanks

You may also like to know that a tank upgrade may be required in the future as a roma 125 would be too small to house adult clowns

They should eat just about any fish food offered. sinking pellets, bloodworms, shrimp, table shrimp, snails, potentially flake (although they prefer bottom/sinking foods). They'll also eat blanched cucumber, zucchini, and peas.

Most loaches are generally shy until settled into a tank, then they'll become more active. they're not as bold as some other fish types. Larger groups are less shy.

They are also very large fish when full grown. 6-8" are common and max size is in excess of 12." They also tend to "fill out" as they grow.

my two clowns go crazy when i put bloodworms in the tank. also they really like peas. i usually take the skin off first though.

yes all of the above, and they do hide when you look at them, mine eat sinking wafers and flakes that fall down, and tetra prima, and yes peas lol, if you like them, then when you upgrade think about getting a couple more, they do much better in larger groups and the change in them will amaze you as it did me, and if you have any nice plants that you are particularly attched to in the tank, say your goodbyes now, as they will totaly wreck them- they are just like naughty kids very inquisitive and destructive and they are my favorite fish,
hope you enjoy them

shelagh xxxx

How long do you think will it take before they become too big?

Have had mine about 18months and after a growing spurt period, they are now about 3.5 inch.

They will grow up to 8-12 inches eventually, but it would be a few years time. (2yrs+)

They'll need larger tank long-term and tend to like a group.

+ Mine eat anything and everything> they love Peas, Algae Wafers and Frozen Bloodworm in-particular.

cool so its more like in 2-3 years they will need to re-homed?

If thats the case thats great as I want a bigger tank in the future, I was just nervous as it was like everyone was saying within a year you need a big tank lol

Well i've just put a few peas in and TBH all the other fish are trying to eat it instead lol

Currently I have:

2x clown loach
4x sailfin mollies
3x ballon mollies
5x red platties
5x emporer tetras
5x threadfin tetras
2x peppered cories

I also want to get a couple ballon rams, would I be over stocking or can the tank handle it?

I do now have an external filter which is doing wonders! lol
