Moved the big fella into the new tank yesterday, I turned my back, and it dissapeared. Took me ages to work out that it had squeezed itself into the tiniest of holes in my mangrove root, and got stuck. Managed to eventually help the daft thing escape, however, since then, its been darting around the tank like its on speed. Part of me hopes it just relief from being stuck, and the enjoyment of its new, much bigger tank, however the more realistic side of me thinks it more likely that the poor things stressed.

Is there anything I can do to help it?

the lights been off - thought it best to leave it off anyway...

Theres no visible sign of injury, and it looks to be swimming ok - just fast, and all the time...

probably just enjoying the freedom how long was he trapped for?do you have other loaches in with him?

not sure... but a good few hours.

He's got 2 new playmates in with him, and being new they're both much smaller than him

the two playmates are they clown loach's ? if not you should be getting more as they are schooling fish & so should be kept in groups

Clown loaches are extremely hard to breed in captivity therefore the majority come from the wild, Clown loaches can be very shy you may have noticed when you walk past the tank it may start darting more.
Clown loaches howver are very frinedly to others of it's species and creates a shoal(They have even been known to pair up with armoured catfishes).
If you take the fish to your local vet you can get something prescribed for it's stress levels to settle it down- A lot of fish shops get this when moving them.
Clown loaches if you did not know are also more prone to disease as they have skin not scales.
How big is he?

Yes - although the fish shop that sold me him told me that he'd be absolutly fine on his own (and that he'd be fine in a 60L tank...) so 2 more for now - may consider another one in the new year... depends what else catched my eye...

The little ones are maybe 1.5" and the big one perhaps double that...

Have to say, he does seem to have settled down now, his coulr is back up, and he's swimming nicely with his new buddies - who are following him like sheep... ;)

If it means anything, my new loach is busy buzzing around the tank, schooling wiht the tiger barbs. I think he is a little confused. But he is definately moving alot faster than what I had imagined at the pet store yesterday. Its kinda cool actually :D
