Hi everyone..I am new here and apologise if this has been answered before but my 2/3 year old clown loach is not well and I am worried. It would seem my old heater was over heating for some time and the water very warm. When I replaced the heater the water temp dropped..to 77 degrees..since then three penguin fish died the forst day and now my clown loach has been laying on its side and gasping, not eating that I can see. Local aquarium shop said to rais ethe temp to 85 degrees and use Myxazin once daily in tank for 5 days..I did a 40% water change prior to this. I am concerned as dont like to see living things suffereing. Can you help please?

When did you last do a water change, OP?

I'd do another one now; 80 or 90% with warm, dechlorinated water; it's the very best form of first aid you can give.

How big is your tank, how long has it been set up, what fish do you have and how do you clean your filter? Do you have the results of any water tests you can post?

Sorry for all the questions, but it will help us pin down what's going on with your fish :good:

Thanks for your fast reply....water change 20% Sunday morning..fish sick that afternoon..Tank is 25 litres set up about 3 years ago...had three penguin fish..all died sunday afternoon.now have three black widoews? and one clown loach. had water tested day or two ago nitrate slightly raised but within scale but did 40% water change, use Tap Safe and Stresssyme.I wash the filter in water removed from the tank. I am keeping the light off so as not to stress the cl. thanks

Hi just went to check on it and it has passed away...:-( so sad as thought it was starting to improve....no more fish for me when these last three have gone...thanks for your help anyway

I'm so sorry :-(

I'm afraid your tank was too small for clown loaches anyway; they need to be in a shoal and can grow to over a foot long.

25l is very small; my son has a tank of a similar size, and he has three male Endler's, two shrimp and an assassin snail, so you are quite overstocked.

Do plenty of water changes and your other fish will feel better.

Best of luck, and I'm sorry we couldn't help your loach.

Thanks fluttermoth, I just get so upset over them, its my husbands tank and I just took over cleaning it out but then when they get ill I get that job..been all over the place trying to help it this week..and I have heart failure so really didnt need the stress....We did have two loaches but one passed away some time back..this one was around 31/2 to 4" long...will do another water change tomorrow morning....Why DO the fish places sell you unsuitable fish when they know the size of the tank?? Thanks anyway ;-)

I know; it's very bad of them :(

at least your not overstocked now, so you should be able to do less water changes soon

As fluttermoth said, 25litre is extemely small and one or two together is not recomended. A minimum of 6 is needed and that would require a massive tank. I think the longest recorded age of a clown loach is 25years if I memeber right.
