I got a large mangrove root, the one on zooplus.co.uk,i didint think my clowns would go inside as they have to swim nearly to the surface to enter or exit, the root is open at top and then splits into 10 thin roots,my prob is my biggest best clown has found his way in as i saw him in the top half of the root as soon as he saw me he darted down into the roots, ive not seen him for 4 days now,the others seem to come and go,how could i flush him out, soon as hes out im ditching the root,

the only way i can get my clowns out of my large bogwood is to take the wood out the water they soon drop back into the tank

Is he out yet?

No,i cant really take it out as he may b stuck,im gona lay the root on its side to c if he pops out,i pray he aint stuck,he aint even come out for cucumber.

Got him out after a hour of moving and turning upside down the root he swam out like there was no problem lol,i taken out the root as the fellas have striped most the paint off.

I'm glad you got your clown out ok :good:

I was worried about my large branch decor has that had holes, and after a recent incident with a cory getting stuck in the bogwood,i've filled all holes with moss balls now

I thought about filling the roots with gravel but they would prob dig through it,plus they keep atacking the paintwork,

Glad he's out.

Since an early problem similar to yours I have always checked new ornaments and blocked up potential traps and wholes with coarse filter sponge its never let me down so far as far as I am concerned if its not a cave I have made I dont let my Clown loaches in any gaps or spaces.

I have Kuhli's as well and if you can stop them then the ornament is bomb proof

Glad your Clown is free :good:

Hadent thought of sponges but would they not bite through, ill prob put it back in when filled as i think they loved buzzing round the roots.they do love a tight sqeaze as i always see 2 or 3 under my bogwood piles.

I think I have the same ornament and my loaches which enjoy destroying my plants with no trouble at all have so far no bothered with trying the sponge.

Have your clowns had a go at the paintwork.

Nope they are to busy destroying my plants and playing in the flow from the power head's. To be honest I have never seen any of my Clown's stripping paint of anything.

Must just be a poor paint job on the root,i was cleaning it just a min ago and the paint was coming off with a sponge, ive scrubbed all loose paint off and filled with juwel filter sponges, now they can only get into the top half but not the roots,Can u have too much water movement for clowns as i have a aquaclear 50 a 30,a u3 and a 305 output,is that too much!,thats like 3000 ltr an hour!

Well you would have to go at it to make to much flow for a clown loach.

As you may know Clown Loaches are found throughout Borneo, Kalimantan and Sumatra's rivers some sections of these rivers have fearcley strong flows.

If you go on youtube and type in clown loach you can find a ton of video's of the little and sometimes big guys! One thing you will notice is they are either being lazy, silly or swimming fast and I mean fast. Thats why people recomend they should be in a 6ft tank not just because of there eventual size but so they can spread there fins so to speak
