I am going to convert my freshwater tank into a marine tank and been thinking of stocking ideas.

I was thinking of 2 clowns, a royal gramma and a 6line wrasse and a cleaner shrimp which is about my limit

my question is whether its best to have 2 clowns or it ok for just the 1?
in my lfs they have a pair and a single....the pair swim around but the single hides a lot...is it because its on its own?

getting one would enable one more small fish but dont mind getting 2 to see the best of them?

so which is best?

tank size?

If its the 14 gallon i wouldnt get any of those and stick to gobies.

if you get a pair then they will probably take over the tank when they mature and start breeding.
Also as Musho asked, how big is the tank?

yeah it is my 14 gallon

i know stocking may be pushing it a little and it would be a very long time before i would complete the stocking but just wanted to know whether the best quality of the fish come out in pairs or r they fine by themselves?

in the wild clownfish live in groups with a dominant pr and a group of unsexed subordinates. In captivity they prefer to be in a pr but many live happily by themselves. They are happier if they are in prs.

I stick to my answer and say none of those. Go with gobies and inverts.

I don't think a pair of clowns belongs in just 14G of water. I have a pair in my 45G and they consider 3/4 of that thier territory and try to chase everything else away.14G is also too small for a sixline wrasse. A 30G would be better, tanks are cheap enough especially second hand ones,so why not just get a bigger one then you can have a pair of clowns and that sixline. :good:

Agreed. If you have to stick with the 14g try less active fish such as cardinalfish or small gobies. :)
