Hello

I originally had a pair of clown fish in my tank, in April I moved house and the dominant larger 1 of the pair died, so I decided to buy the smaller one a new friend, but the new clownfish is considerably smaller. He has got a little bigger since I bought him but not much.

anyway to the point, I recently notice that when someone walks past the tank the larger fish shoots up to the top expecting food, and occasionally if the smaller one follows they start fighting, today the big clown literally pick up the smaller one and was almost shaking him for about 3 seconds before releasing him. I checked over the small clown and he seems to be okay no marks or anything and they are acting normal towards each other. but why on earth is the bigger clown acting this way to his companion why would he shake him? it's not like they even need to compete with anything else for food and there is always plenty to go around.

is this a natural behaviour or is something seriously wrong and how so I sort it?

normal behaviour.
either becoming a pair or for demence

It's really scary watching them go at but fishy is right, it's most probably normal fight for dominance - mine did the exact same. :good:

If they afre still fighting in a few of days then take one out, otherwise the dominant will kill the other.

When I bought mine from the store they both came from the same tank and they have never fought. I wonder if that made a difference in the fight for dominance?

Wouldn't of thought so, clowns are funny little fish and behave in various ways. They are damsels at the end of the day.
