Last weekend I bought a percula clownfish. Since I got him my firefish only comes out of his hole for feeding time and maybe 2 to 3 times a day. If my chromis gets too close or swims with him he goes after him. Is he too aggressive for my tank?

All fish are eating and are all healthy. No flesh wounds....yet?

I can't help with your question, but I'd be interested in the replies coz I bought two clarks anemonefish the other day (similar?) and one of the the little bu##ers keeps pecking at my fire shrimp. I thought they were quite docile, but it appears not!!

there probably still getting used to each other and will probably establish territory's or somwthing, firefish are known for hiding...it mite stop this after a while, the clowns still a pretty new addition to the tank

clarkii clowns are more aggressive than occelaris clowns, they mite leave the shrimp alone or they might kill it....im pretty sure fire shrimp can fight back tho

I purchased a pair of False percula's from the LFS. the only time they get aggressive is when another fish gets to close to their anemone. And even still they dont rip at them, just chase them off. Until he hosts something he may be aggressive all over the tank?

Maybe someone else can shed more light on this :D

Yeah, clownfish can become exceptionally territorial. They dont necessarily have to have a "host", sometimes they just pick out a little spot in the tank and stake a claim to it. I know my own two Perclas have taken to one of my frogspawns... If any other fish comes near the frogspawn, they chase it away. About the only fish that gets a free ride is my big solorensis wrasse, but then again he never slows down near the frogspawn, always swims past it.

when i was down the lfs i saw some clown agreesion, there were 5 percula clowns in one set up and one had well unfortunately died :/ and this other clown was trying to protect it from the other clowns and fish in the tank, it was chasing them bumping into them etc, quite depressive really :(

Well i'm just checking because my firefish used to be out all the time and now it likes(?) to stay their.

There must be something in my water because all my fish are as docile as hell. The most my blue damsel does, is fan up the sand just to p!$$ me off. My clownfish never stops swimming. It hasn't hosted anything and he's been in there a few weeks. The most "aggressive" thing in my tank is the fireshrimp, who gets a bit tetchy if the skunk cleaners come over to feed near his platform.

Well it's been a few days and the firefish is out a lot more. Must be acclimation. Thanks guys. Got worried their for a moment.

firefish like being in pairs or a small group, dont try the pair, but if u got the room put 2 more in. they will be out all the time

Well after reading your comments, I've gone and bought a torch coral today coz the little blighters are still as grumpy as ever. Its a little advanced for my experience but I'm hoping they take to it otherwise they're back to the fish shop because they really wont siut my future stocking plan. As yet they haven't paid the blindest bit of attention to it, but I think my powerheads a bit too strong - for both the fish and the torch so back out with the credit card.....

above was noted that firefish like to be pairs but dont try the pairs what does that mean? i want to get a firefish should i buy two together or just stick to one?

firefish cant change sex like clowns do, and there isnt a way to tell males from females so there could be aggresion problems if you get two males

if they changed sex like a clown, even if you were to get two males, wouldnt the bigger of the two change to a female and then be fine?
