Hi all, this isnt about my tank, its to help a friend, so I said id ask on here for her :)

About 2 maybe 3 weeks ago she bought the Juwel Trigon 190 Corner Tank. This was all up and running the day before she picked it up.

Im still waiting on the exact process she has done with this but heres a quick overview....

Brought it home, added new gravel, filled it with water and let it stand for about 3 days.

She then transferred her 2 platies from her 25L. The next day added her 4 neons and 3 guppies.
She was checking her water (API master test kit) daily to watch out for any spikes.

She then added 3 mollies, 2 corys, and 2 swordtails (mollies and swordtails only about 1.5" long, few month old)

Still checking her water, ammonia rose slightly to 0.25 so she done a water change. Until the reading read 0.

She text me last night and said her water has gone cloudy so she is down in the dumps as she thinks it permanently going to be like that and that she is doing something wrong.

Is this just a bacteria bloom in the water causing the cloudiness?? Does she just need to carry on doing water changes and keep a eye on the readings??

Just to add the filter had been running for about 1 year previous to this.
I no she maybe shouldn't have added the new fish so soon but we have all done it, especially when your upgrading from a 25Litre to a 190Litre!!

And this isn't a topic to contradict about the fish choice, She knows she needs more cories. Also the livebearers are all single sex.

Thanks :)

Has she added the media from 25L to the to the new filter or has she added the old filter to the new tank?

Anyway here media was used to the bio load of 2 platty's adding 4 neons and 3 guppies 3 mollies, 2 corys, and 2 swordtails is way too much for the filter to catch up on and would expect a spike soon enough. Time to get the buckets out. Would really need more info on hows she did the transfer

Assuming she just used the Juwel filter which was old, if left standing for 3-4days with no ammonia source the bacteria would have started dying off, will take a while to build up again but gain hard to tell as dont know about her transfer

None of her 25L filter media was transfered. The 190L was already fully cycled, as I said it was running (with fish, sorry didnt say that) 1 day previous to her taking it and refilling it. In that 1 day will all of the bacteria have been killed off??

Certainly keep an eye on readings and react with water changes as soon as anything starts to move north. I would tend to wait the cloudiness out as if the 190L is already cycled it might just be a case of disturbance etc - one day is certainly not going to kill off the bacteria (assuming she used dechlorinated water etc! :)). Is the 25L now empty? If so I would be tempted to keep that filter alive by adding some ammonia to the each day to keep a cycled filter going :)

The water was dechlorinated yes, and she is testing everyday(if not twice a day).
The 25L wasnt empty but is now, I think she is going to run her small filter in the big tank also for now.

One day wont do much but you mention she left it 3 days just standing in water with heater on. if there was no source of ammonia it will kill of some bacteria, the ammount is unkown i read anything from 4% to 12% per 24hrs so even worse case it not the end of the world for that but would maybe explain the sudden bloom, may just be a mini cycle as the ammonia has gone up once as she said.

Ok thanks. I guess all she can do is keep checkin her water and change if any more spikes arise
