hi, the day before yesterday, we moved our fish to another tank, temporarily, so we could gut the one they were in, and put some new gravel in it.

i cleaned the gravel and yesterday it was put in the tank, along with a couple of plants and some water (some old tank water, some new water). heater and filter were on, light was on until usual lights out time, and today, the tank is cloudy.

we're just wondering why! don't recall this ever happening when we set the tanks up, and obviously we'd like to know what may have caused it, before we even think about putting the fishies back in.

thanks in advance.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Why did you clean the gravel outside the tank.
Did you add some flakes to keep the bacteria alive.

The tank could of gone into a mini cycle with having no fish in there to keep the bacteria alive.
Check water stats.

Check water stats like stated above^

Sounds like you are may be experiencing a bacterial bloom.

hi, i put BRAND NEW gravel in the tank, so had to clean it outside the tank, is there any other way to do it?!

today, the tank is still cloudy, there is a gel like coating over some of the plants, and there is a fruity smell coming from the tank (i thought oranges, my mum says mango!!).
i was going to take a picture, as i've never seen this before!

i will also check the water stats later, too.

not sure about the flake, both my dad and i were doing the clean out, so i'll have to ask him if he did it. he was the one that noticed the cloudy tank to begin with.

thanks, and i'll be back later with water stats.

just an update, a couple of days ago, we took the tank water out, 2 plants seemed to have rotted in it, so not sure if they were starting to rot before we put them in, and caused the water to go all smelly and cloudy, or if they rotted due to being in the dodgy water. think it's the latter, as one of the plants was taken from our other tank, and the remaining plants in that tank are fine!

there was a dirty water mark around the top of the tank, where that water was obviously sitting. the water didn't look dirty, just cloudy/foggy.

we put new water in and everything seems fine now, water stats are perfect, but i'll keep checking them over the next few days.

i'm sure the fishies are looking forward to their nice clean home!

Do you have adequate air flow and adequate filter & circulation in the tank?
I ask because of the dirty water mark around the top of the tank, almost as tho it had been sat there very still.

Did you put new water to the whole of the tank from scratch?

And when are you thinking of adding the fish?
