Hi..I have a new 55 gallon freshwater aquarium that has been running great for 1 month...2 days ago I woke up and it was so cloudy I couldnt see thru it . I have tried accuclear, but it isnt helping and a white foam is starting to layer the top I have cleaned the filters on a marineland 350..Any clues to what is happening?

Few possibilites. Did you do a fishless cycle or did you add fish straight away? You could be having a bacteria bloom which happens when the tank is being cycled.

Or you filter could have been blocked. Or you may not have enough areation, do you have bubbles from your filter or an airstone?

Whatever the cause, a 50% water change is needed straight away. Do you know to clean you filter in old tank water? Do you know you have to de-chlorinate the new water? Sorry if I sound patronising but these questions must be asked.

Also, how big is your tank and how many fish do you have? Types please.

Thank you..Ill try the waterchange..I have it well aerated..but maybe I added fish too soon ..I let it run for a week...and thanks for the info on the filter...

If all you did was let the filter run for a week, that's not cycling. Please read the pinned threads on cycling and return the fish if you can.

Hi,Yes, your tank isn't cycled. As vinylman says it would be worth tanking your fish back and ding a fishless sycle. However, if you can't do that, then you'll have to do water changes every day to get the ammonia levels down. You can get a test kit at your LFS.Good luck!
