Hi,

Still fairly new to this hobby and think I have a bit of an issue with my tank

Tank was setup just after xmas and a fishless cycle completed, now 3 days later I have added 3 platys to the tank, ammonia is 0ppm, nitrate is 0ppm, nitrite is approx 14ppm. However on adding the fish the water has become very cloudy much like the ammonia bloom in the cycle although not as bad.

Is this normal and will it affect my fish?

TIA

Dz

Have you got your nitrite and nitrate the right way round? The nitrite should be 0.

If you've got nitrite - then your tank wasn't fully cycled.

Otherwise (if it's the nitrate that's 14 ppm) - did you do a big water change just before you added the fish? - that often causes the water to go a bit cloudy.
If that's all it is - then it should clear in a day or so.

Do the fish look happy enough?

Hi majjie

I may have them the wrong way round. I have done a 20% water change as well as a 75%change on finish of cycling. Have realised as well that it may be the addition of the LFS water contained in the bag which was put into the tank in error

Regarding the fish they seem to be happy enough and are swimming round getting used to the new enviroment and looking for food.

Do your water tests again asap for ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte and post thrm here. If youvre still got nitrIte that's really not good for your fish.

:good:

Have tested again and these are the readings

Ammonia 0 ppm
NitrIte 0 ppm
NitrAte 12 ppm

The cloudiness of the water is all but disappeared and the fish seem to be lively enough
