Well, I setup my 10 gallon about 3 days ago, and I put sand in it. I did wash it out first, let the water run over the bucket and run my hands through it for about 20 minutes, and I did it twice. I put the sand in the tank, and two days later, it's still cloudy. I don't have a filter, so is this my problem? What can I do to make the water clear? Thanks in advance.

it will take about an hour of washing ..

then u must wait for the loose bits of sand to settle

Change the water a few times and that will fix most of the problem. Next time hiwever you will undoubtedly find it easyer to clean the sand before you put it in the tank.

It shouldn't take an hour to wash it. I spent about 10 minutes doing mine in a bucket, about 3 times to fill a 10 gallon so only 30 minutes.

I had very cloudy water for a few days after adding sand to my small tank, I had a tiny filter with poly pads though, which picked up most of the dust after about a week (changing the poly pad twice in that time.
I still change the poly pad regularly, as it seems to get dirty quite fast.

I have sand I never washed it at all it was cloudey for a few days and that was it .
I had some left so my wife had it for her new tank but washed it, the water as been yellowish ever since (3 weeks) wierd

Thanks guys.. I think I'll go with the big water change and see what happens... -_-
