Hi guys. Would really appreciate some advice.

Basically I have had a 50 litre tank set up for a few months and last weekend decided to do a fresh set up with new gravel.

I have a spare tank so I emptied out the water from my new tank into the spare tank, took out my fish (4 guppies, 4 small platies and a small plec), emptied out my tank and washed it with warm water, cleaned my ornaments and filter, rinsed the new gravel and then put it in the tank along with the filter and ornaments and filled it with fresh luke warm water. I then put in some stress coat and ammo lock, left it for a few hours before I put the fish back in and the water was crystal clear and it looked great!

It remained clear until after 48 hours when all of a sudden the water has gone cloudy and I have no idea why? Please can somebody help me and tell me why this has happened and what I should do?

Many thanks

Hi mate. Can I ask how you cleaned your filter and more importantly the filter media? Sounds like a bacterial bloom to me.

Hi mate and thanks for the reply. Yeah I basically gave the filter a good clean with warm water and then rinsed it with cold and I changed the sponge before I put it in the new tank.

Tap water contains chlorine which may have damaged the bacteria.

Whever possible use tank water.

I just read somewhere that I should do 1/3 water changes every 5 days to get the biological cycle going and to keep the fish alive, but it doesnt say how long for. Please can somebody help me?

Also how often should I feed my fish at this present time and for ho long until I feed them daily?

I really would appreciated any further advice you can give me.

post back with any questions, just bear in mind if longer than 5 days between posts all us "watchers" of the topic lose it from out lists...
