In July I got a Jewel 180 litre tank, i ran it for a week before adding fish a few at a time as advised by pet shop. At first everything was fine, we had a couple of cloudy water days and were told these were bacteria blooms and they cleared quickly. Now however for the past four weeks it has been cloudy and not cleared. At first it was a green cloudiness, we treated this with green alge control as advised by pet shop, this got rid of the green tinge but not the general cloudiness. We have also been losing a few fish that we have had from the begining at about one every 4-5 days. The water has been tested and the ph was a little low so i got a solution to help this. I also got a general antibiotic solution after saying about our fish dying. We have lost 2 danios, 2 small gouramis, a guppie and a molly. We have done 2 25% changes and 1 50% change of the water in the past month but with no improvement.

In the tank we now have 4 platys, 2 danios, 4 neons, 1 cat fish, 1 red tailed shark, 2 large gouramis, 5 guppies, 2 swordtails and 1 molly.

Any help would be much appreciated :fish: thanks.

I guess you did not cycle your tank?

In my humble opinion there is a lot of chemicals going in your tank and very few water changes going on.

Local fish shops known as LFS in this forum are sometimes questioned about there advice.

So here is a page in this forum to help you with a few subjects:

You would do well to follow the links and study all the subjects here:

Water changes are now what's going to stop more fish from dyeing 50% minimum today, tomorrow and the day after some may say more than 50% and keep it up :good:

And read the threads :good: Good luck

Thanks for that, hubby is doing a 75% change as i write this. The only reason we haven't done more water changes is cause we thought it might stress the fish out, I take it thats not the case?

I have only been keeping an Aquarium for a year so I could be considered a newbie.

I have a 350 litre tank I change 40 to 50% every 4 to 5 days. depending on my schedule and I do a real good clean up once a month it has served my fish well.

As for stressing the fish I am very careful in how I do it to reduce the stress Obviously

Its sounds like there is something wrong with your tanks chemistry and that will cause your fish stress, honestly in my humble opinion the water changes will do your fish a lot of good :good:

Did you get a local fish shop to do your test? Did they give you the results?

I would recommend you get your own test kit the one most commonly recommended here is the API master fresh water test kit :good: I have used one since I started on the advice of this forum you can get them at some LFS or on line ebay sellers usually come up No1 for competitive prices

Just to advise most consider the dip test kits are not very accurate.

When asking for advice certain bits of info are help full to help the regulars to help you quicker these include:

Tank size:
Filtration (make and model):
Water temperature:
Water PH:
Water Ammonia:
Water Nitrite:
Water Nitrate:

Pictures and history Which you supplied already :good:

I would recommend you keep hubby working (sorry m8) and do at least a 75% water change daily for at least 4 days get some Good water in there get some of those chemicals out :good: Your fish will appreciate it

Thank you very much, we will do the water change for the next four days and let you know how we get on :)

You are in a fish-in cycle, and need to daily large water changes to keep the ammoina and nitrite levels,a t or below .25 ppm.

You need to purchase a good liquid test kit, like the API Fresh Water Master Test Kit.
