I had an 18 gallon fresh water aquarium and 2 weeks ago upgraded to a 55 gallon. In the 18 I had a rafael catfish, a pictus catfish, a clown loach, 2 silver dollars, a plecostamus and a parrot. Well I transferred all fish to my 55 gallon plus got one more silver, 2 more clown loaches, a firemouth cichlid and 3 angels. Well the water has been a little cloudy since day 3 or 4 after set up. I called the fish store and they said some new set ups are cloudy for 7-10 days so I thought nothing about it. Well one of the new clown loaches dies and I didn't think nothing of it. But the next day the other new one showed signs of ick. I treated the water and two days later my pictus my 3 silver dollars my "old" clown loach and rafael were all eat up with ick I have never seen it this bad. I have been treating the water. Well my pictus was dead this morning and the others don't seem to be getting much better and the water is really cloudy!! I have had aquarium set ups my entire life but never one this big. Once you start treatment ick usually goes away within 2 days but it seems to be getting worse and the water is VERY cloudy!! Please help any suggestions!!

did u not leave youur new tank for 2 weeks before putting the fish in?? if not the filter prob cant cope with all the stuff in there straight away. do a biggish water change everyday is all i can suggest really hopefully others may have better advice

I only waited 24 hours as recommended by the tropical fish store.

Firstly you should NOT have clown loaches in that tank, it's too small for them.

Can you test your water for Amonia / Nitrite / Nitrate and post the results.

Treating for Ick / White spot does not cure the fish, it just stops the free swimming form of the disease and you need to medicate your tank for longer than two days, although as you have clown loaches in there (for now) you need to be very careful about how much of the treatment you use as they are extremely sensitive to it.

Can you also post a clearer account of the process of changing your tank? Did you transfer accross the gravel / filter media? I'm guessing not and this is the reason for the Whitespot outbreak, probably from the loaches who need very good water conditions, and for the bacterial boom that you are seeing making the water cloudy.

24 hours aint long enough for the tank to cycle. i have a 125l tank and i left it for 3 weeks. this may be the reason for the cloudy water as filter is overloaded with stuff. you need to medicate tank for longer than 2 days for ick because of the parasite life cycle so im told. like @ombomb (cool name) says be careful with meds with the loaches and rehome them asap as they grow pretty big. once peeps know your water stats we may be able to give you a few more suggestions.
