Cloudy Surface?

Maybe the begginnings of algae. I get that when my filter starts to get clogged and doesnt move the surface around as much. Also may have something to do with protein in your fish food.

I get it too. I am convinced it is from the fish food.Going to cut down on the feeds to see if it goes.

i don't think so..

i feed me fish once a day.. a little bits only..

so,, it's not a food problem..

I'm having the same problem as well and cannot figure out how to get rid of it without getting a surface skimmer attachment for my Fluval 304. It looks like an oil slick or something kinda hazy, and when I put food in you can see the segments of the oil on the top from the regular water. I hope that makes sense. I have tried using purigen, then tried charcoal. Now i'm increasing my water changes. I have also tried to cut down on feeding but my Clown Loaches are huge along with my Rainbows and they eat everything I drop in before it can sink halfway down.

its simply a build up of bacteria/alge on the surface of the water, a little increased movement would break it up, its completely harmless

simply adding a little water movement at the surface will break this up and it wouldn`t be a problem

I get this too. I can't agitate the surface too much because I don't want to drive the co2 out.

The way I get rid of it (well at least for a few days) is when doing water changes I hold some tubing close to the surface. While doing this a little air may go down the pipe (but if you hold it just right the water flow will keep going) because your trying to suck the top of the water. After you have finished you will see most of the film has being sucked away.
