Hi All,

I wonder if someone can put my mind a rest.

I recently purchased a Orca TL 450 marine tank.

On Saturday afternoon I added RO water and salt. All the salt disolved and I had a reading of 1.024.

Then upon the advise of my LFS I added some live wet sand and live rock.

Since then my tank has been totally cloudy, a white cloudy.

Is this normal? Should I leave it a few more days to clear? Should I turn off the pump and let things settle etc?

Cheers

Ian

Dont turn your pump off youll kill the cycling process in your filter and tank! Have you added bacteria? Wait and let it clear if it dont fully clearly then change the water. Always wash and rinse your sand before adding it to your tank to get rid of any dust

You do not wash live sand the best way to add live sand in first then place a saucer on top of the sand and slowly add water the best way to clear the is to add the sachet that comes with the sand to the water if you do not have this I would use filter floss to clear it down and change the floss regulary.

I don't think it is going to settle. The spray bar was covered in sand particles again this evening which indicates to me that the pump is just recirculating the sand and not allowing it to settle. I think I will have to stop the pump or change the water. In terms of the cycle what would be the least damaging?

dont stop your pump, empty 75% of tank fill with fresh RO water, but pour the new water in slowly to avoid any more mixing up. But tbh livesand is not live just rinse it

Thanks for all your suggestions. Just to let you know that the water has started to clear on its own without any intervention from me.

Thats the best way you can always use filter floss to clear it quicker :good:
