Got a male Convict that developed a cloudy eye about 9-10 weeks ago and its never gone away, despite the follwoing factors

1- never had ammonia or nitrite readings in any tank he's lived in. Nitrate has varied between 40-80 mg/l (usually 40-50), pH and temp always stable (7.6 ish and 80F)

2- Have never seen him being bullied by anyone

3- No other fish in his tanks have been sick or had a similar problem

4 - It has not responded to a course Myxzazin or Salt treatment (low levels approx 2 grams per litre)

is it now irreversible?

the fish shows no signs of distress or any other symptoms?

I have yet to isolate him though, shall i try that? I have some Primafix?

What about if add medication directly to his eye? or will this not be good for him (too strong?) i dont want to make him suffer uneccesarily

Isolate with higher levels of salt perhaps?

Thanks

if the cloudy eye has been there for that long is it most likely a cataract or eye flukes
if it is a cataract then there is nothing that can be done, unless you find a vet that will perform laser eye surgery on a fish.

for eye flukes treatment with pure formalin aka formeldahyde can often, but not always, cure it.
Formalin in a very potent chemical and before using it make sure that the fish does have eye flukes.
look directly into the eye, if amoungst the cloud you see either bright specks or very small white lines
you most likely have eye flukes.

Do a google for eye flukes fish to research the disease further
don't treat for it unless you are certain that is what your fish has.
