For the past 3 or 4 weeks I have had a cloudiness problem, I have made several water changes the most recent a 40% change. I have tried the anti-clouding chemical and that doesn't seem to touch it. I have a 30 gal. tank with Mollies, Gouramis, Platys and Guppies.

My stats are:

Nitrates 20
Nitrites 0
Hardness 150
Alkalinity 130
PH 7.2

I really haven't changed the feeding habits or the food itself. I also have 7 molly fry born last week. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

how old is the tank? is it cycled?
whats the ammonia at?
try using carbon in your filter

This is kinda weird, I also have a 30 gal tank with mollies and molly fry, I also have a crayfish in there. My water was cloudy from day 4 of the cycling process. It was cloudy untill today! Around 5-6 weeks roughly.

I didn't use any chemicals as I already know they are useless.

I started to feed less and didn't change any water (I done this for 2 weeks + 5 days and the water is now crystal clear)

Weather or not it was coincidence that the water cleared when I started to try different things I don't know, But it will clear in time. From what I researched it's just bacterial bloom and isn't harmfull to the fish and will settle over time.

I was very frustrated with it as it totaly spoils the tank but just have some patience :)

Hope this helps!

use carbon! my 30g did the same exact thing, when i added carbon it cleared up to crystal clear

I have had the tank for over 5 months and no problems. It was crystal clear all the way up to this time. I am using activated charcol in my filter. I don't have an amonia test kit. I guess that will be my next purchase. It doesn't have a foul odor to it. It just looks bad.

when do you change the "charcol"?
you should be changing it every 2 days

it goes bad after 2 days in the filter. thats y its cloudy im assuming you have the tetra filter as its the only one i no that comes with carbon in the filter, you can buy a huge tub of activated carbon for $3.00. so its a cheap quick fix.

I don't remember the brand but here is a pic that should make it helpful it is similar to the ones I use.

I really doubt carbon goes bad in 2 days. Not saying your wrong but in my experience it last much longer. How often do you do water changes Kevinator? And your filter cartriges look like they can be Penguin, Eclipse, or tetra. But they look mostly like Aqua tech 20-40's to me.

Have you tried doubling your polishing filter as its the finer particles that cause cloudyness and it could also aid removing some of it.

How clear is your tap water?

if you take the carbon filter out of the water and its stil sizzeling then its still working if its not then its dead.

looks like it might be the kind that the carbon goes directly into the filter cartrige.

I do water changes once a week. They are aqua tech filters.

I checked my amonia and it was through the roof!
