right i got some new food yesterday, it had a little feeding hole for the pellets to pass through and they got stuck, so i shook it and the whole lid came off!!!
the food went all in the water and clouded it all up! today i did a 50% water change because the fish were all gasping for air at the surface, i come home now to find its all the same!!! and the water is still slightly clouded! what should i do ? could it be the filter ?
quick replys needed äc

*edit* the filter is a large Eheim prof. II and has clogged before...

do another water change and make sure you vacuum the gravel. You want to get as much as the spilled food out as you can. Clean the filter with old tank water and make sure its not clogged. Also remove the decor so you can vacuum the whole gravel bottom. When the food starts to decay the bio load will be way too much for the filter to handle.

thankyuou, as soon as uposted i went and did a colossal 50% water change AGAIN. and vacuumed all the gravel, and adjusted the filter to oxygenate the water better. for the moment the fish are all fine. thankyou for your help, äc

DO NOT CLEAN THE FILTER AND VACUUM THE GRAVEL FLOOR AT THE SAME TIME!!!

If you do this, you disturb allot of the beneficial bacteria and could cause your tank to go through a mini-cycle. Just clean the filter and perform a water change. Is the water white or green? If the water is cloudy white in color, then it is a bacterial bloom. This should clear itself up soon. If it is green aka GW or green water, then it is an algae bloom. Depending on how dark it is, it is harmless to the fish. If it is too dark, then you need to perform a blackout for a few days, by covering the whole tank so no light enters. You cannot even look inside to see if the fish are ok during this stage. You can also use a diatomic filter or UV to clear GW.
