Ok, so I have long suspected (and posted here even..) that my large, planted tank had gill flukes. The flashing is much less now, and I am still trying to locate a supplier of praziquantel so that I don't have to clear/ kill all of my plants, shrimp, and ADFs in this process.

Long story short - while watching one of my platies I noticed that in the right light I could clearly see a hair-like strand hanging from the gill/ head area?!?? Could these be visible flukes??? It was clear, not white. Looking only like a thread really. Very small. Certainly couldn't see any tail/forks/details.

Any thoughts?? I had never thought flukes would be able to be seen... now I'm wondering if I have just THAT bad of an infestation...

Could it possibly be an anchor worm? Those are kind of clear like. Anchor worms would create a red spot though where they are located usually.

I don't know? Would anchor worms latch onto/ affect the gills? I have been so convinced I had gill flukes... but they are EXTREMELY hard to see. Barely there in fact... although more clear once I found the right light.

Take a look at a few of the sites below.

Flukes

Anchor Worm

Also some odd things to think when you see something like this.
Are you sure it isn't just a thread from a something like a sponge you might have used in the tank? (i'm not sure how you clean, but just a thought). Also could it be a hair that fell off you or someone with you into the tank and caught onto the fishes gill?

Anchor worm has a forked tail.
