what other filter would be good for my breeding discus tank? i am currently running 2 sponge filters i want to run something else to purify the water, what do use suggest? how about a ro filter?

If you want to keep the breeding pair breeding, it would be best to remain on air driven sponge filters, as motor driven ones will suck in and mince the fry once they get to free swimming.... Been there and done that with larger fry

What are you hardness stats, GH and KH. The KH needs to be fairly low to get fertile eggs, the exact number I cannot remember (I don't yet breed discus, though I hope to) or the KH makes the shells of the eggs more difficult for the males milt to penetrate, leading to few (if any if KH is high) fertile eggs. The best way of lowering the KH is with RO water, but you need to be careful with it's use. Low KH = low pH stability.... pH swings with discus are realy bad, so be shure about your water chemistory before you even attempt to lower anything :good:

All the best

Your filters should be fine.

Over filtration is not a substitute for water changes.

An RO filter is for preparing water, not to filter the tank. No offense but you should have answered any questions regarding those before buying the Discus....

In short most people will need to soften their tap water to breed Discus and using RO water is the most consistent way to do it.
