Hi,

Ive heard its not good to use cleaning products when cleaning the outside of your tank. What do you guys use, and mine has water spots all over it from when i filled it.

All I use is a water spray and fine cleaning cloth that leaves no streaks.

Water spots should easily wipe away with a damp cloth. Calcium deposits (the white crusty stuff at the edges of the tank) come off with vinegar, but make sure not to get any of the vinegar in the water. ;) Some companies make aquarium-glass cleaner, but IMO these products are overpriced & don't work any better than the methods I've described above.

I use ordinary, household glass cleaner. I spray it onto a bit of kitchen towel and then clean my glass. :D

use a lemon. seriously...
and water. what I do is cut a fresh lemon in half, rub the lemon over the glass, then wash it off again with water. Should get rid of the water marks.

I use windex on the outside of the aquarium for dry water spots and then for the inside algea i use my awsome magnetic glass cleaner thingy, omg it pwnz! :kana:

I use windex too, and never had any problems as a result. The reason for putting it on a paper towel first, for any newbies here, is to avoid any airborne spray settling in the water. For this reason it is a good idea to spray it on the paper towel someplace away from the tank.

Also, if this is tank cleaning day, be very careful to wash your hands before putting them back into the tank for any reason. :D
