Cleaning Sand

I know this doesnt exactly fit here but i need some help. How do you clean sand? Do you use a gravel vaccum or what?

hi i have sand in all my tanks, i prefer it becarse all the waste sits on tho top, making the tank easyer to clean. IMO
I use a 12" tranclucent piece 1/2" pipe pushed in the end of my spiophen, just suck point and off u go.

also u have to stire the sand up every once in a while to stop it compacting and going anarobic. ( corys and loach will help with this)

Im pretty sure thats what i have. But wont it suck up the sand?

if you have new sand, you should stir it up and let all the dust and crap get into the water while you do a water change. if you keep the siphon like 3/4 inch above the sand, it wont suck it up
