I want to change my 2.5 gallon from gravel to sand, but i'm wondering how i would clean it. Currently i empty all of the water and then rinse the gravel and pour it out with the gravel staying in the tank, but if i try rinsing sand and pouring it out wouldn't the sand fall out or would i have to sive (spelling) it?
This might be a stupid question but i'm a bit confused

Thanks :good:

you could use a gravel vac syphon im sure you would only lose a very little amount of sand why not do 50% water changes more frequently than doing 100% water changes every week ?

I have a 5 gallon tank with sand and flourite in the bottom. To first clean the sand I used a flour sifter. When I do water changes I use a turkey baster.

I do the sand pretty much the same way as the gravel..

Put the tank in the sink or whatever... get the tap going enough to move around the sand.. the poop should separate and you should be able to dump it out.

Just as easy to clean as gravel for me at least.
