How do you clean sand efficiently with a gravel vacum???

Cheers

Matt

you get close to the sand and make a little swishy moshion to suck up the stuff on top not the sand its self, takes a little bit of practice

But is the dirt not heavier than the sand, so it will suck up the sand?

I think the idea is to swish it so that the dirt floats above the sand (which is compacted) then the gravel vac sucks it up while its floating. You dont actually get near the sand with the vac. About an inch above is ok

Cheers, just thought it would be a good idea if I knew how to clean the sand when I get my new tank

I personally just use the gravel vac for gravel and just use the hose for the sand,i found the dirt to heavy for the vac to suck up being 2 inches above the sand but just using the hose sucks anything up,hardly any sand and doesnt waste as much water :good:

Cheers connor, i'll give both methods a go and see what happens...
