Cleaning Pump

how can i clean my pump as the chlorine will kill the bacteria so how do i do it

With old tank water.

ohhh so i get some of my tank water and clean it with that then throw it away.i put it in a cup then

Take some of your tank water in a bucket or whateva you use when you perform a water change. Then just clean the gunk off the sponge in the old tank water and then just throw that water away.
