What do people recommend I use to clean the outside of the glass - its got a few dried water marks on it from careless filling...

I dont know if its right but I am new to this too but I bought a window cleaning squeegy and used that damp seemed to do the job well

just your usual window/glass cleaner.

don't spray it directly onto the tank though cos it can get in the water. face away from the tank and spray it onto a soft dry cloth then clean the glass with it.

any type of normal commercial glass cleaner would work. when you clean the tank, spray some glass cleaner on the towel you're using and clean the areas that need be. Make sure that the cleaner is sprayed onto towel and not into the air by the fish tank. Fish don't like the taste of glass cleaner

or if you don't want to use any chemical - a wet paper towel (poor some water on it) and another to dry it the water spots. that would be a safer method...

Cheers, once I've cleaned it I'll try to get some photo's.

The tank changed abit from the photo I put up sometime ago - the right hand side is now a sandy beach for the cory's and there are a couple of plants in the tank now (the cory's and platy's are taking great delight in freeing the plants from their pots grrrr....).

(Before anyone comments, I know the following stock list is over stocked but I've got a 25gl tank which is maturing so half the platy's and a pair of cory's will move over - the danio's will probably move as well)

2x Zebra danio's.
2x Leopard danio's.
2x glowlight danio's.
8x Platy's.
2x peppered cory's
2x bronze cory's.

Against my better judgment the wife also insisted on a Betta - so 1x Betta - he's doing fine and ignores the other fishes, the danio's have races around the tank and the cory's have formed their own union, the platy's just tend to swim against the current then allow themselves to drift.

I do the same as Miss Wiggle.

I think I need faster internet or faster typing skills  - I seem to 'echo' an answer everytime I respond. Man, you people respond fast :)
Are sure you aren't being distracted by painting little happy trees before you click add reply. Bob rules!

Have you ever heard of the magfloat? It's got a rough end that gets the algea inside the tank and a soft end that gets the water spots on the outside. You can read more here.

I do the same as Miss Wiggle. Never spray near the tank or directly onto the glass. Only spray onto your cloth or wipe. Magloats don't seem to work effectively for me - and takes forever to clean a large tank and doesn't do a very good job - plus scratches the inside of my glass if a grain of sand is caught!

Other people newspaper moistened with some tank to clean the outside of the glass :good:
