Hello, Ive brought a second hand 5ft tank which is a little grubby, My mate said use some salt water and gave me a scraper blade  . Should I use salt water if so what type of salt :dunno: . Im definetly not taking a scraper blade to it :kana: .

Have you tried a normal plastic scourer? I got a tank second hand yesterday and it was green and grubby, lfs advised against an algae pad / scraper and recommended a plastic scourer which I picked up from the supermarket for 49p and it worked wonders. Might be worth a try.

Buy a pack of the cheap kitchen sponges with a scouring pad on one side for about £1. Then buy a bag of cooking salt and a bottle of distilled vinegar and coupled with lashings of warm water thats all you need in you quest to clean your old aquarium

Kitchen sponges are a no no! They sometimes have soap and anitbacterial stuff in there. I would personaly just use vinegar and good ol' elbow grease and a razor.

Sponge scourers are fine, just don't get the 'anti-bacterial' ones. A toothbrush is also handy for hard to read places.
