I have an all pond solution EF 2000...

How do you go about disconnecting and cleaning the filter??

I noticed that when i pushed down on the blue button to self prime it obviously some of the water drained from the tank through the pipes and into the filter. When u turn off and the filter and unclip the top/powerhead does that water go back through the pipes and back into the tank or does it stay in the filter?

Reason i ask is that when the water level in the tank dropped i topped it back up again with more water so if the water does drain back into the tank when it comes to disconnecting the filter my tank will probably overflow :(

I'm a bit confused as to what you mean, but I'll try and help anyway!

I have these filters too and this is what I do;

Turn the filter off, switch the lever to 'off' and remove the hoses. All the water that's in the hoses will stay there; the filter will be full of water too.

Then remove the pump part; it will drip a bit, so carefully rest it in a bucket (don't lean it across the rim with the clips though!) or on a plastic bag or something.

Then you can pour our the water into another bucket and wash the media in it.

Fill the filter with some tank water (obviously not the stuff from your gravel cleaning, lol; cleanish stuff; as long as it's dechlorinated you could use warm tap water); up to about the bottom of the top tray is where I fill to.

Reattatch the hoses and turn the lever to 'on' again. This where you find out if you've filled your tank back up enough, because the water will flow down the pipes and fill the filter back up (hopefully anyway, lol).

Then give the primer button a few pumps; be gentle with it; don't let it stress you out; and can take a few goes to get rid of all the air (lord alone knows how it all gets in there, but there you are; it does!)

Then you can switch on and top up the tank if you need to :) you'll probably still have air bubbles come out for a while; if it makes a horrible noise, switch it back off and prime it some more (if there's no water coming out at all), or tilt it to let the air out (if there's some water flowing).

Hope that helps :)

Yes that helps. Seems pretty straight forward now that you have explained it but will not know for sure until i try the process myself.

Sorry if my original post did not make much sense. I will try and explain better in future :)

Dont panic if your filer doesnt seem to want to work after a clean, its just all the air in it getting in the way. Just keep trying, turning off, priming etc until it starts. I always give a big sigh of relief becuase no matter how many times I have done it I always think "this" is the time when it wont pump.

Haha ok thanks il keep that in mind. Funny you mention that though because the day i had the filter and was setting it up and i was worried as the pipes were not filling with water when priming as they should of lol
